The Rolex Milgauss reference 116400 is the modern revival of the historic model originally designed for scientists and engineers working in strong magnetic environments. Introduced in 2007 and discontinued around 2023, it features a 40mm Oyster case in Oystersteel with a smooth fixed bezel. Its defining feature is the internal soft-iron Faraday cage that protects the movement against magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss, along with the iconic orange lightning-bolt seconds hand. Powered by the specialized anti-magnetic Calibre 3131 automatic movement with approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Available with black or white dials (early versions) or the later Z-Blue dial, and offered with either a clear sapphire crystal or the distinctive green-tinted “Glace Verte” crystal (GV versions). Water-resistant to 100 metres, the Milgauss stands out as one of Rolex’s most characterful and scientifically oriented sports watches.
